MEET THE AUTHOR

 

Fred Beasley II, aka Doc G - is a forward-thinking dynamic speaker, health and wellness educator, filmmaker, author, creative music director, and global youth culture architect.

Doc is a lifelong creative with over two decades of experience working with at-risk youth and has done interactive workshops and lectures designed to educate and empower disenfranchised communities that continue to be underserved.

For over nine years, he served on the board and as a community educator with the Giant Thinking/Bartendaz organization delivering impactful programs through the Board of Education, Riker's Island Correctional Facilities, The Island Academy, NYC Department of Juvenile Justice, Boys and Girls Clubs, Community Centers and Parks and Recreation Centers in the New York metropolitan tri-state.

He then joined forces with Keith Tucker to found the NYC chapter of Hip Hop is Green. A non-profit organization developed to introduce inner-city youth to the benefits of living a healthy balanced lifestyle in a flavorful and digestible way.

In addition, he partnered with vegan restaurant owners and created The First Supper, inviting youth from schools in Brooklyn, The Bronx, and Queens to enjoy plant-based meals for free.

In 2018, Doc joined forces with NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, and DOE Chancellor Richard Carranza. Together, they worked to implement The Meatless Mondays initiative in New York City public schools serving over 1 million students.

That same year, he and a coalition of advocates helped push the historic animal rights bill in New York City.

His work has been featured in the NY Times, Men's Health, CNN, Men's Fitness, and The Smithsonian museum. Created opportunities to work with high-profile clients such as Nike, NBA, Equinox, NFL, and Leverage Marketing agency. In addition, he is a featured writer in the award-winning book Brotha Vegan: Black Men Speak on Food, Identity, Health, and Society by Omowale Adewale in 2021.

In 2017 and 2018, Fred hosted The Black Veg Fest in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, which garnered over 15 thousand grassroots attendees. He recently hosted the 2022 5th annual historic festival at Brooklyn’s Commodore Barry Park.

Doc serves as the NYC chapter president for Hip Hop is Green, an Advisor for Unovis Venture Capitalist, and an Advisory board member for the Compassion Consortium. Additionally, as the executive creative director for R Baron Multimedia Group, he works to help discover and guide aspiring hip-hop artists' music careers.

Heru The Happy Dragon is Fred's first children's book.
